There are currently no active disasters in this region.

From its offices in Boston, FEMA's Region I works in partnership with the emergency management agencies of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
Region I's most common challenges are hurricanes and other storms that can cause flooding and flash-flooding throughout the region, and severe winter weather.
On the evening of December 11, 2008, one of the largest ice storms in decades struck the Northeast. Overnight, the storm wrought havoc on the region, leaving more than 1.4 million without power and costing government agencies almost $80 million for response and recovery efforts in four New England states.
Across New England and New York, the 2008 Ice Storm quickly overwhelmed utility companies and exceeded local resources. Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont were particularly hard hit. More than 1 million customers lost power, some for more than two weeks, as utility crews struggled to restore service.

Balancing these interests and bringing the parties together took time, patience, consultation and cooperation. But after nearly two years of meetings and negotiations, a number of agreements were reached among the parties.
