Disaster Assistance Employees (DAEs) serve an invaluable role in the continued support of FEMA's mission by providing critical resources and skills when disasters strike. Their service is invaluable in assisting FEMA and the Logistics Management Directorate (LMD) with our response and recovery efforts throughout the country.
The Stafford Act authorizes the "Appointment of temporary personnel, experts, and consultants..." to get the work done during a disaster. These hires are known as Stafford Act Employees (SAEs), Disaster Assistance Employees or reservists.
Reservists are assigned as needed. All reservists are expected to display an overall level of expertise. However, specific assignments may or may not require the reservist's strongest skill set. Work preferences of reservists are considered, but work requirements will always prevail.
