Community Preparedness Division
Overview
The Community Preparedness Division, through Citizen Corps Partners and Programs, provides resources for public education, outreach, and training and offer volunteer service opportunities for citizens to support first responders, disaster relief activities, and community safety efforts.
Key Functions
- Builds a Culture of Preparedness.
- Integrates government and non-government sectors at Federal, State, Tribal, local levels in all phases of emergency management.
- Integrates Community Preparedness in National Policy.
- Develops and coordinates National Citizen Corps Council, Program Partners, and Affiliates.
- Supports State, Tribal, Local Citizen Corps Councils.
- Conducts research on citizen and community preparedness.
Key Programs
- The Citizen Corps Program (CCP) brings community and government leaders together in coordinating the involvement of community members in emergency preparedness, planning, mitigation, response and recovery. CCP builds on the successful efforts in place in many communities to prevent crime and respond to emergencies by promoting local innovation and local participation in community safety. - Part of the Citizen Corps Program, The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Programeducates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that affect their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The CERT program provides a structured opportunity for citizens to augment local emergency response activities.
